In May 2000, we started making ironing board covers at home, and selling from the local markets. In 2001, we hired our first machinist, and not long after, we were looking for a new Sewroo Head Quarters. We moved into a small factory in Harvest Court, Southport, Queensland. We named our manufacturing business Sewroo Products, to make it sound like an Aussie made product, as we are both very passionate about this. In 2002, we started doing casual leasing in shopping centres and hired our first sales person. We started doing 1 shopping centre at a time. It quickly grew to 6 to 7 a week. It wasn’t long and both of Leeanne’s sisters started selling the products, Maree in Townsville markets (Cotters Market), and Tracey in Manley markets. Maree is still selling the ironing board covers and peg bags in Townsville. Leeanne then designed a peg bag that could be left outside, and is wasn’t long and they became very popular.
In 2003, we hired another machinist and a cutter so Graham could focus on product sales.. Our products have been sold in most states of Australia. We started to purchase other Aussie made products to sell alongside our 2 great products, the Dolly pegs and the Miracle brushes. We created a great culture within our staff, sales and manufacturing. In 2007, we won the Month of May Gold Coast business award for manufacturing. What an achievement for Sewroo Products. We went along to the final night, but unfortunately we didn’t win, we were up against some great businesses in our category. We also started doing contract work to the hospitality industry, supplying bedspreads, curtains, bed runners and cushions.
In 2009, we launched our products to the online world, with much success. We have people from all over the world purchase our products when they are here on holiday. We are always amazed at the trouble people go to, to hunt our products down. It makes us proud that we can still manufacture our products here in Southport, and not be affected by cheaper imports. We have just had a whole range of fabrics designed by Belinda Gillies, and we are very excited about this. We also sell our fantastic ironing board covers to the hospitality industry. We supply some of the well known hotels like the Hilton, Sofitel and some of the Casinos around the country. We came up with the idea of embroidering the logo onto the ironing board cover. In 2013, we decided it was time to give our website a brand new, fresh look. Thank you to all the staff at iDeal Technology for assisting us with this project. All of our staff have been working at Sewroo Products for a long time, and we would like to thank everyone for making Sewroo what it is today. We have been making our products for 13 years now, and we know our products are good quality and we know our products will be here for a long time. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our loyal customers.
Leeanne and Graham.
Our factory is currently based at 3/50 Johnston Street Southport, Queensland. We have two lovely ladies; Julie and Janet whom have all worked for us for a very long time now. They are both very proud to be involved with Sewroo Products and each have their own special talents and we feel privileged to have them as part of the team; and appreciate that they are capable of running our factory unsupervised in times when Graham and myself may be out on the road selling our products or away.
Graham and I are very much Jack & Jill of all Trades with being involved with cutting, dispatching, managing the office and sales team. Within the factory are seven industrial sewing machines that complete various tasks for our products. It’s with having these machines and that we still manufacture in this factory that we are able to produce various size ironing board covers such as Elna Press, Drawer, and regularly have available covers for the Robinhood ironing boards. In the event that a customer wants a custom cover they are welcomed to our factory and have it made whilst they wait.
